Australia’s "backwards slide in achievement"

Australia’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results show a significant decline in mathematical literacy and reading literacy (PDF) (and no change in scientific skills). Dr Sue Thomson, Australia Council for Educational Research Director of Educational Monitoring and Research, noted that the 2012 results showed a “backwards slide in achievement” for Australian students and, although general performance was still above the OECD average, this was cause for concern.
