Postive conversations about transition
ALL is pleased to report that it is working with Mitchell Institute and others to bring about a more productive understanding of school assessment and better transition to tertiary education.
ALL and the Mitchell Institute recently convened a forum which included representatives from six universities, three think tanks, schools, peak education bodies, and leaders in the non-profit sector. It was facilitated by Tony Mackay, CEO from the Centre for Strategic Education.
The wide-ranging discussion focussed on curriculum, assessment and pathways, with a high level of commitment to change expressed. Two important points that emerged were the importance of considering 15 to 19 year olds in a block, with more communication and connection between secondary and tertiary institutions, and the need for a reform narrative which is understood by politicians, parents, business and the community.
ALL will convene two working parties and a public forum to further the discussion later in the year.
